Refurb project
We’re delighted to confirm that major refurbishment works at Tylorstown Welfare Hall will begin on site in June 2026.
Exciting Plans for the Refurbishment
Our transformational refurbishment project will breathe new life into Tylorstown Welfare Hall, restoring this treasured 1930s Art Deco building while adapting it to meet the needs of today’s community.
New Youth Space (former snooker room)
Before
After
The former snooker room will be transformed into a dedicated multifunctional youth space, providing a welcoming, safe and inspiring environment for young people.
The new space will support youth activities, outreach work, training opportunities and social connection, creating a vital new provision in the Rhondda Fach.
Community Café (Former Meithrin Room)
Before
After
The room formerly used by the Meithrin will become a new community café — a warm, inclusive social hub where people can meet, connect and access support, while helping to make the building even more welcoming and sustainable.
Meeting and Conference Room (Former Library Room)
Before
After
The old library will be converted into a flexible meeting and conference room, offering a professional and accessible space for community groups, partner organisations, training sessions and local businesses.
Staff Offices (Former Pool Room)
Before
After
The former pool room will become office space for the Project Director and Finance and Administration Officer, providing a dedicated operational base to support the Hall’s long-term growth and sustainability.
Main hall and Auditorium
Before
After
The iconic main hall and auditorium will be fully restored, celebrating the building’s original Art Deco character while upgrading the space for modern performances, events and community use.
Improvements will enhance comfort, functionality and technical capability, ensuring the hall remains a vibrant cultural venue for generations to come.
Improved Accessibility Throughout
A major part of the refurbishment is the installation of two platform lifts, dramatically improving accessibility across the whole building and ensuring more people can enjoy and benefit from everything the Hall has to offer.
Restoring Our 1930s Art Deco Heritage
Alongside these exciting improvements, all works will carefully restore and celebrate the building’s original 1930s Art Deco features, preserving the character and heritage of this Grade II listed landmark while securing its future as a thriving community asset.
This transformational project will secure the future of the Hall and ensure it continues to serve the community for generations to come.
This is happening — and we can’t wait to take you on the journey with us.
This ambitious refurbishment will completely revitalise the building, creating a welcoming, inclusive and future-ready community hub while celebrating its rich heritage.
Our plans include:
- A brand new, dedicated youth provision space to support and inspire young people
- A fully functioning café at the heart of the building, creating a social space and new opportunities
- A fully accessible building, including the installation of two lifts, ensuring everyone can use and enjoy the Hall
- A fully upgraded main hall and enhanced performance stage for high-quality shows, events and community activities
- Flexible, modern spaces to support a wide range of groups, services and events
As part of the refurbishment, the Hall’s interior will be carefully restored to reflect its 1930s Art Deco character, bringing back the style and identity that makes the building so special.
We are incredibly proud to be the last remaining Miners’ Welfare Hall in the Rhondda Fach, and this project will protect and celebrate that legacy.
This project is about so much more than a building — it’s about people, community and opportunity.
We’re looking forward to expanding and strengthening the activities and services we offer, creating a space that supports bigger, better and more inclusive community activity for future generations.
Exciting times are ahead — and we can’t wait to share them with you.
We couldn’t have done this without our funders. Thank you!
