About us

The last remaining Miners Welfare Hall in the Rhondda Fach

We are a multi-functional building in the heart of this community, offering a range of activities, events and opportunities for local people.

We provide services according to demand and ensure provision for people of all ages. The building currently has on average over 500 visitors per month, with ages ranging from 0 – 95 years.  Our aim is to provide for all members of the community and feedback is important to develop new activities to sustain the Hall.

We work closely with surrounding organisations including Communities for Work, Rhondda Food Bank, Adult Education and the local Police Team, who use the Hall as base and to communicate with the community. Furthermore, the Youth Offending Service hire a space to carry out restorative justice work with young offenders, they also help with general building maintenance. The Hall is also hired for various events and activities including; party packages, social events, drama rehearsals, football presentations, local polling station, practice venue for the Tylorstown Brass Band, and much more.

Some of your comments

“Performing at Tylorstown Welfare Hall has been an absolute joy for all of us at Pontypridd Theatre Group. From the moment we first stepped into the building, we completely fell in love with it – it has such a unique character and atmosphere that you just don’t find everywhere.

The stage itself is fantastic and offers a brilliant space for performance, whether it’s rehearsals or live shows. It truly brings productions to life. But what really makes TWH special is the people. The staff have been so welcoming, supportive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They’ve made us feel part of something bigger from day one.

Tylorstown Welfare Hall has quickly become more than just a venue to us – it’s our performing home, and we’re incredibly proud to be part of its story”

“For over a century, Pendyrus Male Choir has stood at the musical heart of its community of Tylorstown, Rhondda Fach, so much so, that “Pendyrus” has now been adopted as the Welsh Translation “Tylorstown” and has been bringing people together through a shared passion for song and tradition.

In much the same way, Tylorstown Welfare Hall serves as a vital cornerstone of the local area. A welcoming venue and safe space where individuals and groups can come together to connect, create, and enjoy. The Tylorstown Welfare Hall provides a wonderful rehearsal environment for the choir, with acoustics that naturally enhance sound and allow choristers to refine and develop their musicality to a high standard.

“It means a huge amount to all of us at Flow Fight Club to have the support of somewhere as historic and respected as Tylorstown Welfare Hall. The Welfare is not just a venue to us. It has become the true home of Rhondda Rampage. There is something special about holding our events there that cannot be recreated anywhere else.

The character of the building, the balcony seating, the views of the action and the atmosphere it creates all bring something different to the show. It gives Rhondda Rampage a real identity and a feeling that people remember long after the final bell. We also want to give a genuine and heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at The Welfare. Your hard work, support and care never go unnoticed. You always make sure the venue is prepared exactly how we need it and you play a massive part in helping every event run smoothly and to the highest standard. That kind of support means everything behind the scenes.

The truth is, without The Welfare and the people behind it, Rhondda Rampage would not feel like Rhondda Rampage. You have given our show a home, and that means more to us than words can fully express. Thank you for everything you continue to do for Flow Fight Club.”

Thomas Harkin, Liam Davies and all FFC staff

It is a space that not only supports performance but actively contributes to artistic growth. Equally important is the strong and enduring relationship between Pendyrus Male Choir and the dedicated staff of Tylorstown Welfare Hall. This bond ensures a seamless and mutually supportive partnership, built on shared values and a commitment to serving the community. Looking ahead, there are extremely exciting times for both organisations, with the Hall securing significant multi-million-pound funding for renovation, its future as a revitalised central hub is assured.
This transformation will further strengthen its role within the community, while also enabling Pendyrus Male Choir to continue thriving both in Tylorstown and across the Rhondda Fach. Together, both organisations represent the very best of community spirit, heritage, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future”
